I tried it and it turned out okay. I got the bag of fruit from Aldi. Jane’s recipe has about 1000g fruit. The bag has 800g and the cake looked like the one jane made.

I used a 7inch cake tin as that’s all I had. It fit (kinda) and made a lovely fat cake

I chose to use the 5 medium eggs as that’s what I buy & with the alcohol & other ingredients it did seem quite a loose mixture, I carried on regardless following the recipe , as stated it did indeed take 2 hours on gas mark 2 . smelt amazing while baking I have just poured a further 2 tablespoons of cherry brandy over the cake will leave it until it’s fully cold then wrap it & feed it every two weeks until end of November I can’t wait to try it in December once decorated πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

First time making a Christmas cake.. if I’m using pre soaked fruit what do I do with the butter? In your recipe it says you melt it into the fruit but if I’m using the premade fruit do I just add it like I would any other cake? Thank you in advance
I’m very excited to try this

Could you please advise on how much cake mix I would need and the time and temp?
Many thanks

If I have 800g of brandy soaked fruits, do I need to amend the recipe at all?

Hi Anita. Did it taste ok? My cake has also taken that length of time to cook (the scewer kept coming up super wet every time I checked) and I’m hoping it won’t taste over cooked/dry come Christmas! Thanks
