No, it doesn’t set!

Quick question

Can you use the condensed caramel instead of making your own or will that not work?

Annoyingly, this is very microwave dependent (as some only have one setting for example, some have many) – I’d say half if you can, and just go for longer? x

First time making this and it split and became grainy. I’ve read comments about microwave setting being too high so what temperature is best for the microwave as it’s adjustable. I went with the highest as per the recipe.
Thank you

Hey! You can do, but it will set – so it may be worth making two trays and still using all of the caramel up? Or half the amount of the recipe x

Hi I just made these and loved them, but i would prefer a thinner layer of caramel. I was wondering if i can freeze the caramel i don’t use? Will homemade caramel freeze well?

I put the caramel ingredients in the microwave as described and they split terribly. I kept going until it was a nice deep caramel colour but it looked chunky and grainy. Tasted fine but wasn’t a good texture. I wasn’t about to waste it so poured it in anyway and set it. After it set and I added chocolate, you honestly wouldn’t know that it was split. It tastes perfect. Don’t throw it away if it splits crew!
It could have been a few things including high heat in the microwave or maybe because I was using the cheap brand condensed milk. I’ll never know but it worked anyway and everyone is raving.

It may still set fine, but the grain is usually from overheating in the microwave and splitting so next time it may be best to lower the microwave temp at first and it may take a little longer instead x

You could, but it’s very firm. It’s best to use my homemade caramel sauce!

We love millionaires squares but in my busy house I only find the time to bake them once or twice a year. This no bake recipe was done in an hour, including the fridge time. Just cut it up and enjoying a slice for dessert! Fabulous!
I must admit that I used digestive biscuits for the base and the bottom is a little crumbly. So next I might add a little more of butter or rather use the shortbread instead.

It may have over heated as microwaves can vary, try shorter intervals and mix well x
